The Power of CHOICE!

As both a camp director and a mom, I've seen firsthand the incredible impact that camp can have on a child's growth and development. One of the key ingredients in this transformative experience is the power of CHOICE.

At Camp Rippling Brook, CHOICE is the foundation of our camp program. Every camper gets to choose their activities. You might wonder, "Why is choice so significant?" Allow me to shed light on the importance of this empowering aspect at Camp Rippling Brook.

  1. Fostering Independence: We all want our children to become independent, confident individuals. The choice activities at Camp Rippling Brook provide the perfect opportunity for them to practice making decisions and taking ownership of their experiences. From choosing which activity to participate in to deciding how to approach a challenge, Camp Rippling Brook empowers children to trust their instincts and develop the confidence to navigate the world around them.

  2. Encouraging Exploration: Camp Rippling Brook is a place of exploration and discovery, where children can try new things and step out of their comfort zones. Our choice activities offer a wide range of options, from arts and crafts to sports, outdoor adventure, and more. This diverse selection of activities encourages children to explore their interests, discover hidden talents, and broaden their horizons in ways that may not be possible in their everyday lives.

  3. Building Confidence: There's nothing quite like the feeling of accomplishment that comes from mastering a new skill or overcoming a challenge. Our choice activities provide children with the opportunity to set goals, work towards them, and celebrate their achievements along the way. Whether it's persevering at archery until you hit the target or performing a theater skit in front of all of camp, each success boosts their confidence and reinforces their belief in themselves.

  4. Fostering Friendships: Camp is a social experience, and choice activities play a crucial role in fostering friendships, building connections, and forming our Camp Rippling Brook family. When children have the freedom to pursue activities they enjoy, they naturally gravitate towards others who share their interests. Through shared experiences and collaborative projects, friendships are formed, creating a sense of belonging and camaraderie that lasts long after camp ends.

  5. Embracing Individuality: Every child is unique, with their own passions, strengths, and preferences. Our choice activities celebrate this diversity by offering a customizable experience tailored to each child's interests and personality. Whether they're drawn to creative pursuits, outdoor adventures, or team sports, children have the freedom to be themselves and express their individuality in a supportive and inclusive environment at Camp Rippling Brook.

  6. Planting Seeds for the Future: The skills and interests children develop at Camp Rippling Brook can have a lasting impact on their lives. By exposing them to a wide range of activities and experiences, we plant the seeds for lifelong hobbies, passions, and pursuits. Whether they discover a love for arts, outdoor adventure, or environmental conservation, the lessons learned at Camp Rippling Brook can shape their future in profound and meaningful ways.

  7. Enjoyment: Allowing children the opportunity to choose their activities means they are choosing something that sounds fun and exciting to them. Through this choice, they never go to an activity that makes them uncomfortable or they don’t want to do. This choice leads to a happier experience.

As parents, we all want what's best for our children. By embracing choice activities at Camp Rippling Brook, we give them the gift of independence, confidence, and self-discovery.
